Blackwater

Blackwater

C1 / Solo / Asymmetrical
Performance Touring, Wilderness Tripping, and Stock Class Racing Canoe

Overview

Arrow

This is a great solo tripping canoe for lakes and rivers of all types. The sleek lines and light weight makes it probably the fastest tripping cruising canoe of its kind. It is also surprisingly stable and the extra volume above the water line gives the Blackwater a great secondary stability for leaning and carving turns while going through class II whitewater. It also meets the specs for the stock racing class. The tucked in gunwales makes for comfortable paddling and the flared bow sheds the water on choppy lakes and whitewater. At the end of the day its light weight makes it an easy carry back to the car or cottage. With the addition of the optional rudder, the Blackwater is very easy to steer especially in windy and rough water. Whether a quick trip around the lake for a workout, a day of fishing, or a week long wilderness trip the Blackwater is a great boat of choice.

Testimonials

"Really a beautiful piece of work. My compliments to you and your crew. I've had it out a few times now and really couldn't be happier with the performance. There is great stability, which I really appreciated in some rougher wind chop this morning. And it sure feels fast. It tracks very well, yet does turn nicely with a bit of a lean. Really the perfect boat for me. Thanks. Hope to be back in touch in a couple of years for a C1 pro boat!"

"The boat handled well in some big lake rough water stuff. With the two packs there was room for the 80 lbs. dog. For a 23 lb boat the greatest part of the trip was walking and climbing the portages. What a breeze. The Chosen Valley yoke worked well. I had a great time and a lot of people asked me about my boat."

"Well I figured out how to make the stock C-1 move. It really likes the shallow water. When I hit the first shallow I picked up the pace and dropped both Nick and Ray. I expected Nick to get back up on me but I kept pushing it until I had hit the upper buoy turn. The first one going back down stream always gets the big distance gain. What really amazed me was running the bank going up stream in front of the hospital. I was able to stay with Tom Walton most of the way upstream. He did get past me until almost the bridge. Now I'm thinking the 70 would be the perfect race for this boat. Has anyone run it yet in this boat? Thanks for designing and building such a nice canoe to paddle."
- Steve Stoddard, PA
"It is exactly the boat I was looking for. The transport from the boathouse to the water is easy because the boat is so light. It's fast and it's surprisingly stable. I am very happy that everything went so well and thank you for the excellent work." - Manfred

The boat worked well up in Canada (Yukon River Quest). I took 5 hours off last years time and ended up with 1st solo canoe.
